  • Just Getting Started PHYSICAL DISC - Sorry, SOLD OUT
Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

Apologies, the JUST GETTING STARTED cd is sold out. However, you can purchase the digital album for download but clicking on the "Buy Digital Album" link above.

The JUST GETTING STARTED acoustic anniversary project has only ever been available as a digital album. Recently we did a limited edition run of 100 CDs, which sold out in a couple of hours. In response to the ensuing outcry (which made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside - thanks!), we've made exactly 100 more CDs.

Get your copy for a minimum contribution of $20 USD. We'll pay for the shipping if you're in the US or Canada.

In fairness to the folks who bought the first 100 (at a higher price), these ones won't be signed and numbered. But they are still collector's items in the sense that they are part of an extremely limited run.

Here's your chance to support the creation of thoughtful indie music ... and get a very rare CD in the process!

JUST GETTING STARTED Carolyn Arends With thanks to Chris Hall, Nathan Foster and Jill Hamer-Wilson for inspiration Back when we were kids, every day we would wish We could just hurry up and get older All our days soon obliged and went whistling by And now time marches on like a soldier There have been moments, so sweet and so good I would have frozen the frame if I could Oh but we’re more like movies than photographs And everything’s moving so fast … but … This is the Preface to the Introduction The Opening Act in an endless production This is a map that we haven’t yet charted We’re just getting started And these are but tastes of the banquet before us The music is great, but just wait for the chorus From delivery rooms to the dearly departed … We’re just getting started Now the miles all fly in the blink of an eye But it’s still a good race we are running And it matters so much because it’s taking us On the journey that is our becoming All that we love, all the choices we make They make us and shape us till one day we take Every age we have been, every song we’ve sung Into the Age that’s to Come …. ‘cause … Chorus Every wound we bear, every joy we share Hints at something greater Every sad farewell we whisper now Is really “see you later” … Chorus © Running Arends Music/ASCAP

Under the Gaze Carolyn Arends Things we shout from mountain tops Every secret, silent thought Even when we think it’s not It’s all within His hearing Highs and lows and in-betweens Watersheds and old routines There’s no hidden fear or dream That He does not see clearly Everything we do for love All the times we lack thereof Whether we rise above or fall…it’s all Under the knowing Under the loving All things are always Under the gaze…Under the gaze of God Sunday morning holiness Weary weekday restlessness Days we walk in righteousness Days we try to fake it He who made the earth and sky Keeps it under watchful eye Never once does He divide Secular and sacred Every atom bears His mark Like every inch of who we are And every beat of every heart remains in place Under the knowing Under the loving All things are always Under the gaze…Under the gaze of God Every hair is measured Every prayer is treasured And though we try to hide from sight All there is that isn’t right Still He calls us to the light Shining all around us And though we run time after time And lose all hope and lose our minds The moment we turn back we find That He’s already found us ‘Cause never does He fall asleep Never does He fail to keep His arms around you and me and so we know… We’re under the knowing Under the loving All things are always Under the gaze…Under the gaze of God © Running Arends Music (ASCAP)

New Year's Day by Carolyn Arends I buy a lot of diaries Fill them full of good intentions Each and every New Year's Eve I make myself a list All the things I'm gonna change Until January 2nd So this time I'm making one promise Chorus: This will be my resolution Every day is New Year's Day This will be my resolution Every day is New Year's Day I believe it's possible I believe in new beginnings 'Cause I believe in Christmas Day And Easter morning too And I'm convinced it's doable 'Cause I believe in second chances Just the way that I believe in you This will be my resolution Every day is New Year's Day This could start a revolution Every day is... One more chance to start all over One more chance to change and grow One more chance to grab a hold of grace And never let it go Repeat chorus © running arends music/New Spring Publishing, a division of Brentwood-Benson Music Publishing, Inc. Do We Dare 03:56
Do We Dare by Carolyn Arends The prayers that we pray in foxholes and funerals The songs that we sing in delivery rooms The questions we ask when nobody's listening But the man in the moon The way our hearts beat - faced with a sunrise Like maybe they know something we don't But it's all in code and we can't decode it Or maybe we won't Chorus: Do we dare pay attention, dare even mention The mystery we find ourselves caught in And do we dare to remember All that we have forgotten Each breath that we take - we take for granted So if there are clues we remain unaware All the days of our lives burn down like matches Vanish into thin air But there are dreams that we dream when we least expect them And memories that come like unbidden tears All the things we believed when we were still children It's been so many years Repeat chorus We are battered and torn from the day we are born In a world that has blinded and bound us Is it any surprise we don't open our eyes To the truth that's disguised all around us Like the secrets we keep we don't know we're keeping From before there was time, before there were lies Can we find you again this far from the garden? Do we dare even try? Repeat chorus © running arends music/New Spring Publishing, a division of Brentwood Music Publishing, Inc. and BMG Songs, Inc. (gospel division) (ASCAP)

Father, Thy Will Be Done by Carolyn Arends When I cannot ask for more - Father, thy will be done When I rail at heaven's door - Father, thy will be done When my faith in you is strong - Father, thy will be done When my strength is almost gone - Father, thy will be done Chorus: Father, thy will be done Father, thy will be done I want to see your kingdom come Thy will be done When I cry to you in prayer - Father, thy will be done When I don't believe you're there - Father, thy will be done When I feel your gentle hand - Father, thy will be done When I just don't understand - Father, thy will be done Repeat chorus When I'm walking in the light - Father, thy will be done When my heart is black as night - Father, thy will be done When you give what I desire - Father, thy will be done When you take me through the fire - Father, thy will be done Repeat chorus © Sunday Shoes Music (ASCAP)

In Good Hands words and music Carolyn Arends His hands were callused Oh I am sure of that From years of nails and hammers with his father And his hands were dirty I know they must have been The times he healed blind eyes with mud and water And though I have never seen him face to face I can say this much I understand I believe that he is holding me now And so I know I am In good hands I'm in good hands His hands were steady Breaking the bread That fed five thousand souls who came to hear him And his hands were gentle I know they must have been The little children clamored to be near him And though I have never seen him face to face I can say this much I understand I believe that he is holding me now And so I know I am In good hands I'm in good hands His hands were wounded He gave his life And we know by the scars how much he loves us And though I have never seen him face to face I can say this much I understand I believe that he is holding me now And so I know I am In good hands We're in good hands © New Spring Publishing/running arends music/ASCAP.
